This album was supported by a grant from FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes) from the Mexican Fund for Culture and Arts. The aim of the project was to record a series of works by living composers which were written for or dedicated to Morgan Szymanski and friends. The recordings were made in Mexico City, the Royal College of Music in London and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
It includes the world premiere of Julio César Oliva´s Danzones, Valle de Bravo, Irene (dedicated to Morgan´s mother), Bugambilias and La Perla (written for Morgan´s guitar!). Simone Iannarelli also wrote a work for Morgan, ´Tonada del Xoloitzcuintle´ which is recorded for the first time here. Other composers who have written for Morgan include Stephen McNeff with La Catrina, Deborah Pritchard with El Árbol de la Vida, Paul Coles with Huitzilopochtli, and Ivan Moseley with his Sonatina.
Two special guests include viola player and composer Simon Rowland-Jones with his piece Banyalbufar written after the town in Mallorca and premiered there by Simon and Morgan. Finally, Mexican flute player Alejandro Escuer joins Morgan for Marcela Rodriguez´s ´No Estacionarse´ written especially for their flute and guitar duo.
The cover art is a beautiful silk painting by Hilary Simon, commissioned especially for the album.
